2010 BMW 5 Series Touring Spied

More and more BMW 5 Series test mules are being seen around these days. Just yesterday, we had the chance to see the new 5 Series family spotted somewhere in France.

Today, we  have new photos of the 2010 BMW 5 Series Touring, the larger 5er that is due to be released next spring. Unfortunately, nothing has changed much from the previous spy photos, the heavy camouflage made out of fake body panels attached to the car, is hiding the design details.

At a closer look, we did notice the headlights being exposed more than before and judging from the front shot, they have the same corona rings as the headlights in the newly unveiled BMW 5 Series GT.

We also learned recently that new BMW 5 Series models will be using an all-steel chassis with some special techniques used to process the steel - a multi phase steel (tubes are made of thinner steel layers reinforced with some other composites - making them lighter yet stronger than classic steel tubes).

BMW’s goal for the new 2010 BMW 5 Series is to decrease weight in order to increase performance, so the car uses lightweight materials including carbon-fiber and aluminum, making up for the slightly heavier chassis.

As we mentioned yesterday as well, several petrol and diesel engines will be available to choose from, including the award winning twin-turbo six-cylinder engine and the 4.4l V8 turbocharged engine found in the new 750.

No other information for now, but we should expect more revealing spy shots in the next couple of months.
